Ashley Main

I am a multi-disciplinary architectural lighting designer from Calgary, Canada. I hold an undergraduate degree in Visual Studies (ie. Fine Art) from the University of Calgary and a master’s in Architectural Lighting Design from Parsons the New School for Design in New York. I resided in Austin, TX for eight years following my studies, but am happily returning to Calgary in January of 2023.

In my previous lighting design positions, I collaborated with architects, designers, and engineers on lighting layouts and specifications unique to their project needs; handling national accounts, monumental public spaces and high-end residential homes. My continued work with Wimberley Glassworks and other creative side projects include luminaire and art installation design for both private and public projects. Being possessed of a unique skill set, I often find teaching becomes an important aspect of what I do. It has lead me to present both formal continuing education courses all the way to casual happy hour information sessions. I consider my area of expertise to be “everywhere the light touches” and am always looking for new creative challenges.

My creative approach balances a sense of form and function with a focus on efficiency and sustainability. I offer unique perspectives and expertise on illuminating the potential of a space; bridging the gap between the engineering, technical, and artistic nature of lighting solutions.
