ART INSTALLATION DESIGN & LIGHTING CONSULTATION

Art Installation in the lobby of Sugar Land City Hall, 2020

Sugar Land, TX USA

Artwork Budget: $83,000

in collaboration with Wimberley Glassworks

The intent for this piece is to create a meaningful piece of art for the City of Sugar land for their 60th anniversary that reflects Sugarland’s growth and tradition. The inspiration for this is an abstraction of sugarcane itself, reflecting the tradition that brought people to the area, and the city’s continued growth. This heavily influenced the choice of the vibrant green and gold color palette and the fascinating textures. The dynamic shape provides a sense of growth and upward momentum to the space, exuberantly welcoming visitors in.  The piece is kept structured with streamlined linear glass elements that complement the architecture. It also is kept grounded, as it is a perfect reflection of the medallion on the floor translated into three dimensions. The piece endeavors to create a sense of place and excitement which commemorates Sugarland’s 60th anniversary.
